Barbara Jean Freeman

Barbara Jean Freeman (née Venice) was born March 12, 1933 in Westlake, Louisiana to Richard and Anna Venice. She was one of seven siblings: Wilbert, Delores (Gradney), Lula Mae (Freeman), Lily (Jasmine), and Betty (Pryor).

She is preceded in death by her husband Jean “Gene” Baptiste Freeman, Elbert Brandon Jr. (son), Tommie Brandon (son), Richard Vorice Freeman (son), Aubrey Brandon (grandson), Tyriq Freeman (great-grandson), Amaré Allison (great-grandson), and Ashlynn Sims (great-granddaughter).

She is survived by her children, Douglas Venice of Lake Charles, La; Josephine Mahalia Freeman (Alphonse) of Houston, TX; Marilyn Ann Freeman-Henderson (Shird) of San Antonio, TX; Dr. Cynthia Ann Morris of Killeen, TX (Rennick Carlton); Gene A. Freeman of Baltimore, MD; Katherine Lee Jenkins (Harold) of Fisherville, KY; and Jimmy Randall Freeman; as well as 27 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. 

Viewing will be held at Lumberton Family Funeral Home in Lumberton, TX on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 5:00pm to 07:00pm. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 9:00am to 11:00am at New Covenant Faith Baptist Church, 2233 12th St., Lake Charles, LA.  A Life Honoring Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at New Covenant Faith Baptist Church with interment to follow immediately at Morning Star Cemetery, Mossville, Calcasieu Parish, LA.
