Albert “Grandpa” Wargo, 96, of Beaumont, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. Albert was born on June 29, 1922 in Yonkers, New York. He spent his later teenage years at the Wartburg Children’s Home in Mount Vernon, New York. He enlisted in the Army during WWII in 1943 and served as a Medical Lab Tech and Military Police (MP) until 1945. Albert was blessed to have had a rock solid, joyous marriage of 71 years to his beloved wife, Mildred Kachmar Wargo, until she passed away in 2014. His life experiences in and around New York City were prolific, as his many detailed story attested to. They moved to Houston in 1953 when Warren, their only child, was five months old. Al worked in sales at various companies, some of which took him to a sundry of foreign destinations. They moved to Beaumont in 2005 just in time to evacuate for Hurricane Rita. He was baptized by his son and became a beloved active member of Lamar Baptist Church.
Albert is survived by his son, Pastor Warren Wargo, and his wife Deborah; grandchildren, Joshua Wargo, and wife, Sarah, Abigail Cunningham, and husband, Eric, Esther Jean, and husband, Josh; along with his “pride and joy” eight great grandchildren, Emmalyn, Silas, Mabel, Henry, Elizabeth, Cora, Eden, and Asher; Al has two sisters, Olga Petrucci, of Palm Beach, Florida, and Elinora Kolibabek, of Yonkers, New York; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The Family will receive friends for a time of lunch and visitation on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Lamar Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas at noon. A Memorial Service honoring his life will be at 1:30pm in the Lamar Baptist Church Sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Lamar Baptist Church designated for the Children’s Ministry because “GRANDPA” loved, and was loved, by all the children.
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12
