Patricia Laraine Baker, 83, of Lumberton, Texas, passed peacefully from this life on January 13th, 2023, surrounded by family gathered at her bedside in her home, where she longed to be.
She was born on June 24th, 1939, in Tuscumbia Alabama, to Katie Elizabeth McAnally Tompkins and Robert Pride Tompkins, Sr.
A woman of profound Southern grace, grit, and stubborn determination, she never met a stranger and loved and supported everyone she encountered, whether outlaw or saint. She never sat still for over a minute, finding great joy in working, whether cooking fabulous meals, scrubbing every inch of every corner of her house, or climbing up a ladder to sweep off her roof, she only questioned why everyone else didn’t want to do the same.
She was simply “Mama Pat” to a countless number of people. Her family– and especially her grand and great grandchildren - brought her true joy during her life and were a constant source of precious medicine for her soul during her illness.
She was a Christian in word and deed – loving the things of God as well as serving her loved ones and those in need. She was the epitome of a Noble Woman.
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband praises her as well.” Proverbs 31.
Patricia is survived by sons, Rob Langham (Tauyna), Thomas Langham (Katherine), and Cory Baker, all of Lumberton, daughter, Tracie Young (Chuckie) of Silsbee.
Grandchildren: Brittney Smith (Kyle) of Silsbee, Charlie Young of Dallas, Dakota Young of Silsbee, Aubrey Langham (Paytin) of Lumberton, and Jack Langham of Lumberton
Great Grand Children: Kane Smith, Kole Smith, Kash Smith, Kooper Smith, Hudson Young, Ellie Rose Langham, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Patricia is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Ray Baker; her parents; brother; Robert Pride Tompkins, Jr, sister Stella Ann Fredieu; and grandson Robby Langham.
The family wishes to send special thanks to the wonderful and caring angels of Intrepid Hospice for their delicate and dedicated care and outpouring of love during her final days.
A Memorial Service and Visitation will be conducted on Wednesday, January 18th, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lumberton Family Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Bertrand of North End Pentecostal Church officiating.
