Martha Redman Obituary

Mrs. Martha F. (Woods) Redman, 91, of Lumberton, passed away peacefully with family by her side under the loving care of Harbor Hospice on Friday, January 14, 2022, in Beaumont, Texas. Martha was born Wednesday, April 9, 1930, in Port Arthur, Texas to James A. Woods and Lee Pauline (Rasco) Woods.

You may have heard it said that a woman is the heart of her family. Martha was the heart and soul. Tenacious and fiercely loving, Martha was always ready to share her thoughts and opinions with those she loved, as well as those who simply made the mistake of asking in passing. Martha found her direction in life by loving the Lord God above all else and putting her family next. Married to the love of her life and the pillar of their family, Malcolm, for more than 59 years until he beat her to the pearly gates- Martha and Malcolm built a home of support and love for their four children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Malcolm taught Martha how to take a joke and laugh at herself, and later their sons and son-in-law easily kept with tradition keeping Martha and much of the family laughing all the time. But Martha didn’t just sit by and let the moments pass her by, her quick wit and vivacious love of life kept her going and exploring until her last moment. She loved to travel, something that was easily accommodated being an Airforce Wife for 21 years and moving all over the world; Martha’s favorite time spent abroad was when Malcolm was stationed in Germany. She loved it so much that she often shared stories of her experiences. No matter where Martha and her family called home a few things were assured- God came first, prayer was the most powerful and meaningful thing you could do for anyone or any situation, and no matter where you were Martha loved you. A proud Christian woman and devoted member of First Baptist Church of Spurger, her church home that held her heart long after she could no longer attend. Martha was most recently a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Beaumont while living with her beloved daughter, Brenda, and son-in-law, Carl- who lovingly cared for Martha since Malcolm’s passing. Faith was the fabric that Martha’s life was woven in, and the fruit of that faith continues to be seen today. Dependent on the Lord for solace after the loss of her husband, Martha only continued to grow as the strong prayer warrior that carried her family until the instant she exhaled here, surrounded by family, and inhaled next to the Lord and loved ones waiting for her. The loss of Martha is made more profound by knowing that they have lost the knowledge, advice, and intercession with Jesus that Martha brought to all she knew and loved; but her impact through actions, memories, and prayer will be felt for generations to come and she will not soon be forgotten.

Left to cherish her memory and continue her legacy are her children: Malcolm Douglas Redman Jr., James Glenn Redman, Brenda Wood and husband Carl Wood, Reginald “Reggie” R. Redman and wife Petra A. Redman; her siblings: Mary E. Jarrett, and Aundria J. Bridges and Bill “Bodie” Bridges; her grandchildren: Martha A. Mathieson and husband Ross Mathieson, Malcolm “Traie” D. Redman III, Christopher “Chris” James Redman, Sondra Hendon and husband Troy Hendon, Tonya Powers and husband Branden Powers, Somer Redman, Shea Harrison and husband Cecil Harrison, Reginald “Reg” Redman Jr. and Taylor Marcotte, and Laura Alvis and husband Joshua “Josh” Alvis; her great-grandchildren: Kenneth, Craig, Dakota, Ryleigh Kate, Jaxon, Morgan, Carson, Tynley, Parker, Tanner, Bryce “Bear”, Kayden, Jude, and Eden; as well as her much loved church family, all those she prayed for during her many years talking with the Lord, numerous extended family members, and many friends through the years.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of more than 59 years, Malcolm D. Redman Sr.; her daughter-in-law, Merilyn B. Redman; her brother-in-law, James U. Jarrett; and her great-grandson, Lane Michael Redman.

Martha F. Redman strongly believed in Christ’s commandment in Matthew 28:18-20 and in supporting Missionaries around the world. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to the Lottie Moon Mission at Calvary Baptist Church of Beaumont.
