Margaret (Marge) Mary Sciandra, 77, of Lumberton, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
Born on September 13, 1949, in Buffalo, New York, to Gregorio Guzzo and Mildred Maude Patrizzi Brown, Marge carried her northern roots with her throughout her life. Though Texas became home, she never lost her love for Buffalo, often reminiscing about snowy winters and proudly cheering on her beloved Buffalo Bills. On game days, family members could always count on hearing her favorite rallying cry: "Where would you rather be than right here, right now? Go Bills!”
On November 1, 1968, Marge married the love of her life, Daniel Joseph Sciandra. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and love. When Daniel's career with Mobil Oil brought the family to Texas in 1980, Marge embraced the move with strength and tenacity, quickly becoming devoted to her new home and the community that came with it.
Above all else, Marge's life reflected her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She loved the Lord deeply and never missed an opportunity to share that love with others. One of her most cherished sayings was, "God is good all the time," often pausing expectantly for friends and family to answer, "And all the time, God is good." Her faith was not simply something she believed; it was something she lived out every day through service to others. She was a leader in her church and was passionate about caring for those in need, especially the homeless in her community.
Marge also possessed a passion for education and young people. She worked for Lumberton Independent School District for more than 30 years, becoming a beloved lunch lady to generations of students. Throughout her years of service, she never let a child go hungry, often covering the cost of their meal herself to ensure they had something to eat. Her ability to recognize those in need and make each student feel seen earned her a reputation as someone who could reach the hearts of children who needed it most.
Beyond her work in the cafeteria, Marge became a fixture of Lumberton ISD, serving in the ticket booth, working the concession stand, and helping establish the soccer program at Lumberton High School. She dedicated countless hours to the sport she loved, coaching both the Lumberton High School boys' and girls' soccer teams as well as Hardin County adult leagues. Marge's passion for soccer extended beyond the sidelines, as she also played/coached on local adult teams and treasured the friendships and community the game provided. Her love for students and coaching continued long after retirement as she remained active as a substitute teacher and faithfully returned to coach alumni soccer games. Whether in the lunchroom, on the soccer field, or in the classroom, Marge led with patience, compassion, and the conviction that every student mattered.
While her faith and service touched many lives, nothing brought Marge greater joy than her family. Her home was the gathering place for holidays, celebrations, dinners, and countless ordinary days that became treasured memories. As the matriarch of a large Italian family, she delighted in preparing meals, welcoming everyone through her doors, and ensuring no one ever left hungry. Laughter, conversation, faith, and food were constants around her table. She loved fiercely, gave generously, and made each person feel valued and cherished. Her family was her greatest accomplishment and her most treasured blessing.
Marge is survived by her son, Daniel Sciandra and spouse, Jamie; daughters, Janie Jasco and fiancé, Alan Smith, and Lyndell Rashall and spouse, Jerry Rashall; daughter-in-law, Terri Sciandra; brothers, Gregory Guzzo and spouse, Cheryl, Michael Beiring and spouse, Virginia, and Johnny Maraglino; sisters, Maryanne Folts, Suzanne Hekemian, Rosella McCabe, Patricia Langley, and Ruth Ann Laufer and spouse, Alan; grandchildren, Michael Jasco, Alyssa Szczygiel and spouse, Ryan, Andrew Alvira and spouse, Nicholle, Gabriella Alvira, Jimmy Sciandra and spouse, Shannon, Danny Sciandra, Katrina Sciandra, Charlee Guy and spouse, Blake, David Sciandra, Colleen Rashall, Colin Rashall, and Dylan Rashall and spouse, Delia; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Mason, Amelia, Owen, Logan, Knox, Olive, Phoenix, Reese, Shiloh, Arabella, Lilly, and Arlo; along with a host of extended family members, dear friends, and loved ones.

Though her family grieves her absence, they find comfort in knowing that the woman who spent a lifetime proclaiming God's goodness is now rejoicing in His presence. Her legacy of faith, love, generosity, and devotion to family will continue through the many lives she touched and the generations that follow.
