Grace Stanley Obituary

Grace Ann (Whitman) Stanley, 75, of Vidor, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021. Grace was born on February 28, 1946, to Benjamin Whitman and Dorothy Hoosier.

“Who can find a virtuous woman?” From the beginning of time, Our Creator knew what men like Jasper Stanley needed; a “helpmate”, and that is just what he found when he and Grace were married 30 years ago! She was a godly woman, a servant to others and to The Lord. Nothing was too much to ask, and she would help everyone do whatever needed to be done! She really was a servant through and through. When others saw serving as a burden, she always saw it as an exciting opportunity. One of the main ways that Grace loved to serve was through her amazing gift of cooking. If you were there, she was cooking for you, and it didn’t matter if there were 5 people or 50 people, Grace cooked enough for 500 people; making EVERYONE’S favorite desserts. Everyone will miss those coconut pies and peanut brittle!

Retired from Walmart, seamstress, owner of a flower shop, successful insurance salesperson, hairdresser; Grace was good at everything, however the idiom “Jack of all trades, Master of none” would not fit her. She was extremely talented and a perfectionist. She would master her art, whether working on the intricate details of a wedding dress or wedding cake, or simply penning her incredibly beautiful signature, she made sure everything was done right.

She was an old fashioned and proper woman - held herself “just so”. Could stretch a penny with the best of them, and was the queen of savings coupons; using them even if she didn’t need the thing she saved money on! And saved EVERYTHING “just in case”.

Grace was a wonderful mother, the peacemaker, and always kept her family together. She was the strong glue for her children no matter the situation. She earned the names “Granny Grace” or “Gramma” and loved kids; liked to spoil and love on them.

She did have a funny side to her sweet demeanor. Had a kind of dry wit and humor. Often saying she would “always get even”. Those who sat in her chair while she did their hair would learn quickly that she didn’t like to hear gossip, when she would poke or tightly brush or tease their hair to make them stop! When singing, she always had to be able to see her children, Twyla noted “I’ve never seen someone be able to sing in the anointing while disciplining her children at the same time… That Look!”

Her love, her servant heart, her cooking and her sweet presence will be missed until that great reunion in the presence of her Lord.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Jasper Curtis Stanley; her daughter, Twyla JoAnn George and husband Andrew; her daughter-in-law, Sara Griggs; her siblings, Leverne Babington, Nina McClendon, Shirley Plumlee, Linda West, Lanell Andoe, and Dorothy Parker; her step-children, Ramona “Mona” Duhame, Jasper Curtis Stanley Jr. “Bubby”, Denna Stanley, Jacqueline “Jackie” Cook, and Brent “Peppy” Stanley; her grandchildren, Samantha Ann Khanal and husband Shikchit, Benjamin Keith Griggs, Marissa Aubrey George, and Kaylee Grace Griggs; her step-grandchildren, Ashley Fairchild, Kandice Moss, Meagan Stanley, Calley Mish, Monique Stanley, Samantha Stanley, Leena Stanley, Braedon Stanley, and Lindberg Molina; her great-grandchildren, Marley, Dante, Joon, and Corben; her “double first cousin” and great friend Elizabeth Baxley, as well as numerous friends, church family, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Whitman and Dorothy Hoosier; her sons, Sidney Benjamin Griggs, and Joseph Lee Griggs Jr.; her siblings, Vera Matthews, Lethy Gaught, Louis Williams, and Ellis Williams.
