Eva Marie (Hebert) Stockett

Eva Marie Hebert Stockett, 59, of Dayton, went to join her Lord and Savior in Heaven on Friday, May 29, 2020. Eva was born on June 27, 1960, in Lafayette, LA, to George Stephen Hebert and Beverly Josephine Linhares Hebert. The eldest of seven children, Eva grew up surrounded by family and loved ones. From a young age, Eva had a profound and deep love for the Lord that was the constant center and focus of her entire life. Eva graduated from Ross S. Sterling High School, where her outgoing personality led her to encourage and inspire fellow students as a cheerleader. Continuing in her love and pursuit of learning, Eva went on to attend Oral Roberts University and Lee College. Eva’s great love of knowledge and learning, as well as the joy she found in teaching and sharing knowledge with others, eventually led her to teach, most recently at Trinity Classical School. Her great love of the Hebrew language -- evident in her six years of study at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem-- gave Eva the desire and passion to teach Hebrew to others, and this would become one of her most meaningful legacies. 

Passionate, first and foremost, about serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all of her life and being, Eva was a pillar of strength and grace for her family. She was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman to her husband, children, family, and friends. Eva was blessed to have been married to her husband Randall “Randy” Wayne Stockett for nearly forty years, and together the two had a wonderful marriage and six children. Eva homeschooled all six of her children and shared special relationships and bonds with each of them and their respective families. A woman of many talents and interests, Eva had a great love of the arts and of creating art herself. She created beautiful works of art, calligraphy, scrapbooks, handmade cards and gifts, paintings, knit and crocheted crafts, pottery and sculpture, handmade jewelry, and stained glass. She enjoyed creating outdoors as well; she loved to garden, growing large vegetable gardens throughout her life, and enjoyed teaching others about creation and gardening. She saw so much of our Creator in His creation and loved to be a part of growing and creating things herself. Another creative outlet for Eva was cooking and baking, which she did with great gusto, out of an overflow of her love for her friends and family. Another significant legacy that she has left is that she went out of her way to make anyone and everyone welcome at her table and in her home, and she excelled at filling her table with guests regularly. She was known particularly for her potato soup, her sweet cornbread, her biscotti, and her homemade pizza. Seeing her kitchen as another canvas, she was always tweaking and fine-tuning recipes, either to improve them or to feed an even larger crowd. When not creating, Eva could often be found working in children’s ministry, where she served as a children’s pastor alongside Randy for many years. Eva loved children and believed that helping them to understand God’s Word and grow in faith was one of the most important things she could do to make a lasting and meaningful change in the world.

More than anything, Eva left lasting imprints on all the lives she touched – from her family, to the children she taught and loved, to friends and church family. Eva will be deeply missed, but those who knew Eva best know her to be at peace at her Lord’s side at last.

Left to cherish Eva’s memory and carry on her legacies is her husband Randall “Randy” Wayne Stockett; her parents George Stephen Hebert and Beverly Josephine Linhares Hebert; her sons: Christopher Taylor Stockett, Parker Jamison Stockett, and many by choice as adopted sons; her daughters: Whitney Drew Stockett Cahan and husband Josh, Elizabeth Courtlandt Stockett Martin and husband Dustin, Sidney Brooke Stockett, Victoria Barclay Stockett, and many by choice as adopted daughters; her brothers Malcolm Hebert and Jerry Hebert; her sisters: E. Stephanie Hebert, Eleanor “Ellie” Hebert Hodges, Amy Hebert Eggert, and Renee Hebert Adams; her grandchildren: Austen Martin, Ariah Martin, Baby Martin (expected Fall 2020), Carson Cahan, Clive Cahan, Baby Cahan (expected Fall 2020); and too many former students, friends, and loved ones to count.

Preceding Eva in death are her grandparents, Joseph Rex Hebert and Gurlie Eleanor Hebert, and Francis Xavier Linhares and Irene Phillips Linhares.

To honor the life of Eva Marie Hebert Stockett, the family has planned a graveside service on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at 10:00 AM at Memory Garden’s Cemetery in Baytown, TX. The family is requesting that those wishing to participate in the celebration of Eva’s life please take part in her drive-by memorial procession. 

To join the drive-by procession and express your condolences and show your support for the Stockett, Cahan, Martin, and Hebert families, please begin arriving at 10:30, Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at the Ferris Airport, 9430 North Main Street, Baytown, Texas, 77521. When you arrive at the airport, you will be guided into a procession line. Please remain in your vehicle. The procession will begin moving toward the cemetery at approximately 11:00 a.m. Please slowly follow the vehicle in front of you as you are led to the cemetery, approximately 2 miles away. 

* For your safety and the safety of our families, once you arrive at the cemetery, we ask that you remain in your car. The procession will take you right past the families, and there will be a family member standing by if you would like to hand something from your car window to someone in the family. 

The Stockett, Cahan, Martin, and Hebert families are glad to have had such an outward expression of love and wish to convey that they love you and appreciate your cooperation.
