Melanie Sikes Obituary

Melanie Sikes passed away on February 17, 2019. She was born on October 5, 1971 in Beaumont, TX to William David Johnson and Judy Ann Johnson.

Melanie was a beautiful person, inside and out. A wonderful mother who was always caring for and treating others with respect. Her love story with her husband, Rubin, started with their walks to middle school, but he knew that one day she would be the girl he would marry. She just loved his long hair. On September 14, 1991 their journeys merged into one and Rubin and Melanie upgraded from arcade crushes to husband and wife. He would call her “Mel” unless he was serious, in that case, “Melanie Ann” was used. Planting and nurturing flowers was a past-time that Melanie often indulged in, although she wasn’t very successful and could “kill a cactus”, she enjoyed it very much. One of her favorite hobbies was visiting antique and resale shops with “Momma”, depending on how much money she was able to save, of course. Melanie also loved to drive her red Charger and she especially enjoyed the heated seats. Her mastery of enchiladas was a testament of her love for cooking. She enjoyed going to and dressing up for the renaissance festivals with her daughter, Macy.  Melanie left a space in this world that just simply cannot be filled. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. She may be gone but she will certainly never be forgotten.

Left to honor her memory is her loving husband, Rubin Sikes; daughter, Macy Rose Sikes of Beaumont, TX; mother, Judy Ann Tyler Watson and husband, Larry of Kerens, Texas; sisters, Laura Stacks and husband, Marty of Waxahachie, Texas; Mary Ann Goetz and husband, Shane of Waxahachie, Texas; Amy Newport and husband, Paul of Missoula, Montana; Vonda Trahan and husband, Joe of Arlington, Texas; brother, Lawrence E. She is preceded in death by her father, William David Johnson; great-grandmother, Macy D. Tyler; grandmother and grandfather, Terrel O. Tyler, Sr. and Mary L. Tyler; brother, William Russell Johnson; father-in-law, Robert Sikes, Sr.; and Grandma and Grandpa Santana.
