Karen Ruth Jackson, age 58, passed away on April 20, 2019. She was born on March 3, 1961 in Dallas, TX to Mattie May Jackson.

Karen had a huge smile that could melt anyone’s heart, she would shower others with kisses and warm affection making it impossible not to love her. She successfully worked at a sheltered workshop for over 20 years in Lufkin, TX, where she formed lasting relationships with peers and those who provided care for her. Karen resided in a community group home affiliated with the Hughen Center inc. in Port Arthur, TX for 3 years, she enjoyed recreational activities, both indoor and outdoor through the Hughen Center’s various programs. She did not receive any formal education but she did receive informal education from Lufkin State Supported Living Center during her residency there. She learned how to express herself through a communication board and some American Sign Language. Karen was a good learner and loved being able to communicate with others. Karen’s favorite activity was dancing, although it was difficult for her to do, if she ever heard some good “booty shaking music”, She just couldn’t help herself. Her resilience stands as a testimony to each person who met her and one day we will dance with her again. 

Appreciation and acknowledgement is given to every facility and caregiver that enriched her life: The Hughen Center, Lufkin State Supported Living Center.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at the Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S. Main St. Lumberton, TX from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Her life honoring service will follow at 3:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lufkin, TX
