1937 - 2019

Donald W. Moss, Sr. passed away June 25, 2019 in Beaumont, TX. He was born on June 17, 1937 in Beaumont, TX to Joe and Naomi Moss.

Don was a long-time resident of Vidor, dating back to 1951, and was a 1955 graduate of Vidor High School.  He never met a stranger, most that met him considered him ‘one of a kind.’  Caring and kind, he was always there for those in need and willing to take care of folks. Donald would notice a need, even before others, and tried his best to selflessly serve that need. He loved mechanical things and possessed a keen sense of fixing things, especially cars.Using his mechanic skills, he could work on just about anything. His love for cars would manifest in his passion for NASCAR, and he was fan of the Earnhardts. From a young age, Don was not sure how to do things halfway and no matter how long it took, he would always find a way to finish something that he started. As a diligent worker, and as caring as he was to meet the needs of those around him, he was also one who never worried with getting in a hurry. Choosing to live in the moment, he would often repeat to others that "it’s better to be an hour late, than a minute early.” Donald was late to everything, except for one of the most important days of his life; he made it to his wedding early. He met Melvia at a Nederland Drag Racing event and the rest was history. One of his favorite things later in life, along with Melvia, was joining his son on cruises to various places in the Gulf and Caribbean, often choosing to stay on the ship to enjoy as much ice cream as he could. A proud veteran, he served honorably in the United States Army, afterward working hard to provide for his family, eventually retiring from PPG.

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Melvia Moss of Vidor, TX; son, Donald W. Moss, Jr. of Vidor, TX; sister, Linda Dragna of Columbus, OH; 2 grandsons; 3 great grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.

Preceding Donald in death are his parents and his sister, Lou King.

Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the River of Life Church, 595 W. Fwy Blvd S, Vidor, TX. Donald’s life honoring memorial service will follow, also at the church, with Pastor Jared Parnell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to River of Life Worship Center or the charity of your choice.
