David Brown Obituary

David Brown

1944 - 2019

David Lamar Brown, age 75, passed away on December 4, 2019. He was born in Kountze, TX on January 9, 1944 to Otha P. Brown and Eula Elizabeth Dykes Brown.

The genuine, selfless nature of David left little doubt how deeply he loved. His heart was open and accepting, welcoming a new acquaintance to become a dear friend.  What he possessed; he gave. In both resources and time, he would give often more than was asked or required. Known to occasionally be headstrong, David had no shortage of passion; for David what he felt and what he did were inseparable. Once David made room for you in his heart, you were there to stay. This was most true in the love he shared with his “Darling”, Judy. From the moment he first laid eyes on her at a church tent meeting, a love was sparked that would burn ever more brightly for the rest of his life. They were both too young to marry at the time, but on April 17, 1965, as soon as they were old enough, they married and were side-by-side for the next 53 years. Family was of the utmost importance: encouraging his family in whatever they did, filling the household niches that circumstance may have required, and never missing the events that mattered, which for him was nearly everything. David set the bar for being a dad. He lived for God, instilling in his children and grandchildren the same faithful example learned from his parents. A skilled debater, he was the most educated, uneducated man that would ever meet. While not a world class chef, he perfected his famous recipe of roast and mashed potatoes, and all that tasted it remembered how delicious it was: though his preferred method of cooking was the drive thru. “PawPaw” to his grandbabies, “Pops” to many, and “Uncle Davo” to his nieces and nephews, David’s exceptional character, example of faithfulness and trust in God, and his legacy of love will forever be remembered by his loved ones.

Left to honor his memory are his children David Brown and wife, Kim, of Kountze, TX and Johanna Moak and husband, Michael, of Seguin, TX; brothers, Ernest Brown and wife, Shirley, and Russell Brown and wife, Eddalee; sister, Eula Beth Wheat and husband, Warren; sisters-in-law, Betty Ward, Wanda McCardle, and Joyce Grisham and husband, Donald; grandchildren, Jonathan Brown and wife, Katie, Stephen Brown and wife, Becca, Sarah Williford and husband, Steven, Ethan Riess, Savannah Brown, Micah Moak, Malachi Moak, Maddox Moak, and Emerson Moak; great-grandchildren, Maycee, Avelyn, Bensyn, Rowan, and Coltyn Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and countless friends that were counted by David as family.

Preceding David in death is his loving wife of 53 years, Judy Carolyn Brown; his parents; children, Betsey Earline, Joseph Clinton, and Bridget Amanda; brother, Huey P. Brown and D.W. “Dub” Brown; and sisters, Faye Nunn and Joyce Mae Brown.
