Norman Dudley “Corky” Callihan, 87, of Warren, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016. He was born September 28, 1928 in Old Gulf, Texas. He had a lifelong love of aviation. He owned his own airplane at the age of 16.  He even was hired by the Air Force to teach pilots how to fly. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He was always educating himself, subscribing to magazines such as Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, and Omni, etc. He continued learning from the companies with which he contracted, learning all things mechanical and technical. He was a contractor for NASA during the time of the first moon landing, working on their huge computer systems such as the L.E.M., Lunar Excursion Module. Colonel Callihan served in the Civil Air Patrol and the Texas State Guard, and worked closely with the National Guard for many years. During Hurricane Carla, he volunteered his flying skills to rescue people.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Verde and Margaret Callihan; siblings, Leon Callihan, Milton Callihan, Ralph Callihan, and Jeanie Magee.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jearldene Callihan of Warren; children, Stephen Alan Callihan and wife, Belinda of Thailand, Stefani Callihan of Warren; grandchildren, Andrew Koch of Wisconsin, Sierra Lewis of Oregon, and Aurora Reynolds of Florida.

A memorial service at Houston National Cemetery is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016.
