Gordon Phelps

Gordon Phelps, 88, of Beaumont, TX, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born on February 8, 1929 to Mattie Simmons Phelps and Jesse Phelps in Stringtown, Newton County. He lived in Newton County until 1994, before moving to Beaumont. He served in the Korean War, and was in the Tank Division. After returning from the war, he worked for various construction companies as a heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Georgia Ruth Phelps; two daughters, Donna DiDio and husband, Mike of Crystal Beach, TX, and Ronna Phelps of Beaumont, TX; one granddaughter, Jessica Gonzales and husband, J.T. of Lumberton, TX; and two great grandsons, Brodie and Alec.

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Lumberton Family Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017 at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Ray McNames. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Beaumont.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
