George Wm. "Bill" Sample
July 1, 1924 ~ January 11, 2015 (age 90) 90 Years OldGeorge William “Bill” Sample, 90, of Beaumont, passed away on January 11, 2015. He was born on July 1, 1924, to Herbert L. and Blanche M. Sample in Marengo, Ohio. Bill attended Ohio State University and Texas A & M. He moved to Texas in Dec. 1959 from his dairy farm of 13 years, in Ohio. He retired from the Texas Dept. of Transportation in June, 1987. Bill was a WWII veteran, serving 4 years overseas. He married Joyce Crouthers on Feb. 15, 1947 in Louisville, KY. He was an officer in Elks Lodge #311 in Beaumont, TX and was a member of Good Sam and FMCA motor home clubs. Bill was a member of Wesley United Methodist in Beaumont. He had a woodworking shop where he enjoyed making cabinets. They traveled all over the U.S. and went to Hawaii and Mexico numerous times.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 68 years, Joyce Sample; sons, Ronald and wife, Leighann and Donald and wife, Margaret Anne; daughter, Shelley Riley; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Sample; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Grayce Burton and Mildred Mahard; and brother, Richard Sample.
His life honoring service will be Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., at Lumberton Family Funeral Home with visitation an hour before at 1:00 p.m.
