George Clark Root

George Clark Root, 75, of Lumberton, passed away Monday September 19, 2016. His passion was building. He was a carpenter by trade and he kept himself busy helping others. He enjoyed deer hunting and collecting rocks and arrowheads. He had a huge collection of petrified wood. He was a hard worker and he was not one to sit still. Even after a heart attack, he did not let it slow him down and he kept on going strong. He always stayed busy helping others and working on projects. He was a football fan and loved boxing. He loved spending time with his grandkids who called him “Papa”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Helen Root; daughter, Pamela Kay Root; brother, Billy Root, and his dog, Buster.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Peggy Root of Lumberton; daughters, Anna Marie Kay Hackler and husband, Bruce of Lumberton, and Angela Renee Lormand of Lumberton; sisters, Jean Pena and husband, Roque of Sour Lake, Marion Ames of Orange; grandchildren, Madison Alyse Carbaugh, Remington Clark Carbaugh, Cameron Clark Lormand, and Carson Clark Lormand all of Lumberton.

A memorial service is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Monday September 26, 2016 at Woodcrest United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Charles Jordan.
