Gary Scott

Gary Scott, age 85, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in his sleep at Silsbee Oaks Healthcare facility.  He was born January 16, 1932 to Walter E. Scott and Edith Barrett in Greenville, Texas.

Gary as a child loved music.  He played the cornet in high school.  He was in many musicals at Greenville High School.  He went to Freed – Hardeman College and then onto Abilene Christian College. He met his future wife, Gerry Ford at Abilene Christian College.  He had a major in Secondary Education. They graduated May 25, 1953.  They were married on August 17, 1953.  He had decided that he would be a preacher of the Gospel of Christ.  He started his work at the Church of Christ in Riverside, Fort Worth, Texas, June 1, 1953.  He remained a fulltime preacher for 60 years. He also taught many Vacation Bible Schools and Singing Schools throughout the years.  He had a love for God that never stopped but grew stronger and stronger.

Now I will tell you what I personally know about my Father Gary Scott.  He loved the Lord with all his heart, soul and mind.  He loved to sing His praises and tell about His saving grace and love.  He was a wonderful husband to my mother and a wonderful father to me and my sister and brother.  He loved his grandchildren and loved to be with them. He taught the gospel to so many people and labored with brethren in many congregations.  He was humble and caring.  He taught us that God comes first.  He was an energetic and happy person.  He always trusted in the Lord. 

Left to honor his memory is his son Kevin Scott of Los Angeles, California, daughters, Celia Sansbury and husband Tommy, of Rockwell, NC, Lynette Brown of Beaumont, TX; grandchildren, Shae Sansbury of Concord, NC, Karie Frick and husband, Lee, of Salisbury, NC, Chad Sansbury of McDonough, GA, Daniel Brown of Beaumont, TX, Hillary Barnes and husband Aaron of Humble, Tx, Chelsea Brown of Carrollton, Tx; greatgrandchildren, Lauren Bennett, Landen Bennett, Logan Bennett, Aiden Bennett, Isla Frick and Millie Barnes.

Preceding Gary in death are his wife, Gerry Scott, parents Walter E. Scott and Edith Barrett: brothers Guy Scott and Glenn Scott.
