Doyce Alan Childs

Doyce Alan Childs passed away at the age of 65 on September 8, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas due to heart complications.

Alan was born on July 21, 1952 to Doyce Childs and Billie Jean Bowman in Jasper, Tx.  He grew up in Beaumont, Tx with brothers Fred, Joel, Daron and sister Laura.  Alan graduated from South Park High School in 1973.  His various accomplishments includ Rice Aviation Phi Theta Kappa College Honors Society – Aviation Technician (June 1999); Chaplaincy Certification (June 2012); Certificate of Ordination as Reverend (Nov. 2012); and finally a Doctorate of Theology (May 2013).

Alan’s career path led him from pattern making to aviation technician and finally at the time of his passing his true calling as pastor of Pipe Creek Bible Church during which he impacted the lives of many.

Alan married Regina Edwards of Beaumont, TX  in January 1975, he is survived by his wife Regina,  daughter Donna Michelle and son in law Noel Bautista, two grandsons he loved dearly, Troy and Dylan Bautista of San Antonio, TX.  He is also survived by his Mother Billie Eberlan and stepfather Ray Eberlan of Jasper, Tx.  Stepmother Cindy Childs of Lumberton, Tx. Brothers Fred Childs and wife Monica of Pearland, Tx; Joel Childs and wife Caren also of Pearland, Tx;  Daron Childs of Brookeland, Tx; Rick Boyd and wife Angela of Lumberton, Tx; Donnie Childs and wife Missy also of Lumberton, Tx and sister Laura Thousand and fiancé Art Langelier of Baytown, Tx., Beloved uncles Sam Bowman of Fairhope, Alabama; Thomas Comte and wife Dianne of Beaumont, Tx, an aunt, Mary Stewart of Orange, Tx as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Alan is preceded in death by his Father Doyce Childs, grandparents, uncles, aunts and a nephew.

It is at this point that the usual remembrance of Alan becomes extraordinary, as he can only be described as such.  Alan was an accomplished guitar player, however his fascination and first love had always been in the heavens.  As a young child he was interested in such subjects as the planets, stars and any vessel capable of flight.  As a teenager he constructed and launched complicated rockets.  He was a private pilot as well as a ground instructor. His fascination with the heavens didn’t end with the stars and planets, not by far.  Alan’s eyes were on Heaven and his heart belonged to the Lord from a very early age.  He attended church as a child at Lamar United Pentecostal Church, Alan was faithful and a servant of the Lord until his last breath.

Alan was a dedicated, hardworking man who devoted all his passion to any task he performed.  He was talented in many areas, pattern making, both the mechanical aspects and the art of flying, he was also a black belt in karate;  he was as skilled as he was intelligent.  He was thoughful, loving and gentle to those he held close to his heart.  He will be forever missed as a husband, father, grandfather, son and brother.

 A life that touches others goes on Forever….how blessed we were to have someone that makes saying goodbye so hard.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 30th at 2pm at the Lumberton Family Funeral Home located at 768 South Main Street in Lumberton, Texas.
