Douglas A. Shearer, 76, of Lumberton, passed away on January 10, 2015. He was born on September 29, 1938, to George William Shearer and Greta Anna Snyder Shearer, in Chicago, Illinois.

Always in good humor, joking and having fun . . . that was Douglas. He served his country via the United States Air Force. He worked two years in the Border Patrol, six years for U.S. Customs and then the rest of his working career he was in the hardware sales business, traveling most of the time. It was a good thing he liked to play tennis and run because he kept Blue Bell in business! Mint Chocolate Chip was probably his favorite, although at any given time the freezer was stocked with several flavors. He ran 30 full marathons and numerous ½ marathons. He liked cars, even washing and waxing them. Douglas was a born again, Bible believing Christian man who was active in his church (Journey Community Church) and enjoyed going to Costa Rica to help them build a church there.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 plus years, Aurora Shearer, of Lumberton, Texas; daughters, Denine Parker and husband, Kurt, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Denise Silva, Debbie Newbill, and Cynthia Thompson of the Houston area; sons, Douglas Shearer Jr. and David Shearer and wife, Amy, of Mandeville, Louisiana; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, George and Greta Shearer; and brother, George Shearer Jr.

His life honoring memorial service will be Thursday, January 15, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at Journey Community Church with Jeb Airey officiating. The family is requesting in lieu of flowers donations be made to the the Building Fund at Journey Community Church.
