Cecil Evans “Pete” Riley, 69, long-time resident of Vidor, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016. He was born in Sterling, Kansas October 25, 1946. He spent his youth growing up in Holdenville, OK and then Philadelphia, PA, later as a young man he moved to Silsbee. He loved to fish when he could find the time. His biggest joy, other than his family, was the satisfaction he got from working. He was a mentor to many young men in the construction business. He was a leader of men. Some feared him, some hated him and some loved him, but they all respected him. He was a hard man with a big heart, he was always willing to help someone out and give them an opportunity to prove themselves.  He liked to work hard and play hard. He was a lot of fun while off the job, while at work, he was a total professional. He was a cut above and he will be truly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father, Cecil Earl Riley; mother, Ruth Ann Van Horn; step-father, Richard Van Horn; daughter of his heart, Charlotte Benton; siblings, Ronnie Van Horn, Michael Van Horn, and Brenda Van Horn; sister-in-law, Charlotte Van Horn; ex-wife and friend, Shirley Johnson.

He is survived by his son, Roger Riley and wife, Melissa of Vidor; step-daughter, Robin Trevino; grandchildren, Caleb Riley of Portland, OR, Rachael Riley of Vidor, and Seth Riley of Vidor; great-granddaughter, Kerah Riley of Portland, OR; brothers, Richard Van Horn of Vidor, Marvin Van Horn of Silsbee, and John Van Horn of Silsbee; sisters, Cynthia Warren of Silsbee, and Lynette Dean and husband Darren of Lumberton, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday September 24, 2016 at Pine Forest Baptist Church, 4800 N. Main Street, Vidor, TX, 77662, officiated by Dr. Stephen Dollar.
