Mr. Albert Lee Johns, age 76, of Silsbee, Texas, died 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018, from lengthy illnesses at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.
Albert was born June 15, 1941 in Lake Butler, Florida, and had lived in Louisiana for several years where he worked for the American Press. In 1976, he moved to Texas and worked in a convenience store until he retired. Albert had a passion for animals and gardening. He raised dogs, chickens, ducks, and geese.
He leaves behind his daughter, Joyce Johns Conner and her husband Fred Conner of Bell City, La.,; his son, Talton Hardy Johns and his wife Racinda (Cindy) Harris Johns of Falkville, Alabama; his daughter, Veronica Johns Durrett and her husband Joey Durrett of Sulphur, La.; his sisters, Emma Johns Hagar of Lago Vista Texas, and Blanche Johns Slaydon her husband Jimmy Slaydon; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his best friend and nurse, Edwin R. Collins of Silsbee, Texas, for 42 years. For 15 years Edwin took care of Albert day and night for his many different illnesses.
He was preceded in death by his son, Albert Lee Johns Jr. of Sugartown, La..; his mother, Vynessie Lee Johns Barber; father, Hardy Johns; his brothers, George Johns, Leonard Johns, Bill Johns, Leon Johns, and Earl Johns; and sisters, Vynessia Barber Seller and Georgia Barber Fink. His pet Pomeranian dog, “Max,” passed away February 15, 2018.
A life honoring service for Albert is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, at Lumberton Family Funeral Home's chapel.
